In 2009, I wrote an ebook called “Recession-Proof Graduate.” I’d received countless emails from college students and graduates, asking for advice on how to get a job they wouldn’t hate.
Much like them, I had struggled to find meaningful work — or any work — while we were in the heart of a recession. Constantly shooting out my resume to dozens of companies I didn’t want to work for, scrambling to land an interview for jobs I wouldn’t like… and always coming up short. It was exhausting. But once I changed my strategy (which I lay out in the ebook below), everything changed. I landed a handful of dream gigs, got to work with amazing people, and found myself turning down multiple job offers. But best of all, I was getting paid to work on projects that made me come alive. It was a far cry from the days of begging for soul-crushing work.
People kept asking how I did it, so I wrote it all down. What started off as a few paragraphs turned into a 30-page rant on how poorly most of us approach our careers post-college, and what you can do to change your life for the better. This ebook (which you can download here) was the result:
.
RPGrad was well-received. It’s been read by more than 120,000 people, given away as a graduation present, and translated to Italian.
I’ve been asked to deliver a couple TEDx talks on principles from RPGrad, and I’ve also done a number of interviews about the book, which you can check out below. Enjoy!
